Now or Never (Ahora o Nunca) Documentary

As our economy wavers on the brink of economic collapse we look to Argentina which acted as a test case for how far the local and international ruling classes and banking institutions could push a country before it pushed back. The result was not one that anyone could have predicted. People from all backgrounds and from a wide array of social classes finally said "enough" and took to the streets in the battle that is sure to serve as an example of a successful resistance to economic policies of unregulated capitalism and the Washington consensus for many countries in the future.

The parallels between the Argentinean people's priorities and patriotism and our own are made obvious by the film. The force behind the resistance is a powerful one once the dwindling middle class joins the battle with the poor, and working classes. A socioeconomic group that was once "asleep" awakens, demonstrating the force such an alliance of popular classes can be. This documentary shows what such a collaboration can accomplish in the face of profoundly anti-social macro economic policies.

Now or Never also serves as a reminder to us of how quickly the mighty can fall. It was only fifty years ago that Argentina was one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The documentary clearly shows how this kind of wealth can not be taken for granted.

The film, however, is neither negative nor cynical. It is a documentary that highlights the power of spontaneous collaboration and resistance of the people themselves. Watch as the citizens take to the streets, without formal leadership and without a single political identity, as they battle to get back their and their country's dignity.

This is a gripping and intelligent documentary with powerful, often frightening footage of the democratic process in its most naked form.
